KOCH LORBER FILMS AND RED ENVELOPE ENTERTAINMENT PARTNER IN DOMESTIC DEAL FOR WATER LILIES (La Naissance des Pieuvres)

UN CERTAIN REGARD HIT AT CANNES FESTIVAL

Port Washington, NY (June 22, 2007)— KOCH Lorber Films and Red Envelope Entertainment announced today they have partnered and jointly acquired all U.S. and Canadian rights to the French coming-of-age film, WATER LILIES (La Naissance des Pieuvres), which premiered to great acclaim in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes 2007 Film Festival, helmed by first time scripter-director Celine Sciamma. The deal for all theatrical, home entertainment, television, and digital rights was negotiated by Richard Lorber, of KOCH Lorber Films and Liesl Copland of Netflix’s Red Envelope Entertainment with Film Distribution’s Nicolas Brigaud-Robert and Didar Domehri. After additional major festival screenings throughout North America, KOCH Lorber plans a national theatrical rollout beginning in New York in the first quarter of 2008 followed by a DVD release day and date with Netflix later in the year.

Film Synopsis:
It's summer and the girl’s winning synchronized swimming team is in full swing at the vast municipal swimming pool and social hub in the Paris suburb of Cergy. And it’s here that Floriane (Adele Haenel), a shapely blonde with come-hither looks, is a valued performer and star of the social set. And, although Marie (Pauline Acquart), isn't on the team, is small for her age and flat-chested, she becomes Floriane's confidante and cover for the budding siren's assignations, often at the expense of Marie's best friend, Anne (Louise Blachere). The aching doubts and offhanded cruelty of 15 and 16 year old girls is on full display in this rich coming-of-age tale.

“Following our recent acquisition of the acclaimed doc Lagerfeld Confidential, Water Lilies gives us a wonderfully sublime piece of fiction from a brilliant new directorial talent,” said Lorber. “Since Cannes, there has been great interest from some of the most prestigious international film festivals; we’re thrilled that we’ll soon be able to deliver such a poignantly original film to theatrical and home viewing audiences in North America.”

“Combining the reach of Netflix’s proprietary technology and nearly seven million subscribers with KOCH Lorber’s ability to access the entire marketplace as well as niche audiences, we’ll have the opportunity to present Water Lilies to its fullest potential audience” said Copland, head of Acquisitions and Distribution for Red Envelope Entertainment. “This partnership is precisely the kind of synergistic vision specialized film needs to reach its broadest possible audience and we are excited to forge that vision with KOCH Lorber.”

About Red Envelope Entertainment
Netflix is committed to providing consumers with access to the widest variety of films available. With over 80,000 titles, the Netflix catalog spans every major genre, from documentaries and dramas to comedies and how-to. To that end, Red Envelope Entertainment is acquiring and funding original content projects to increase consumer options and provide an innovative method for film distribution. While giving filmmakers a platform to expose less commercial projects to a broader audience, Red Envelope Entertainment looks to leverage its proprietary technology to offer the nearly seven million Netflix subscribers unique and original content to which they wouldn’t otherwise have access. This original content initiative creates a national distribution channel for films and entertainment programming otherwise not available to broad audiences.
